This group, of which I am a member, also faces significant trouble finding and keeping employment. Though our troubles do not face the circumstances of place–prison–our circumstances are and remain very similar–we too seldom have any recourse when we get fired, forced out of a job, or many jobs. There are at last count 851,000+ members of our group, the majority of whom have problems keeping work, a place to stay, and support from the community, all of which create stability and cut recidivism rates very much. A lot of people look at former inmates with varying degrees of suspicion and fear, varying degrees of support and acceptance. But there is one subgroup within this group that frequently, regularly lacks most if not all the support and acceptance. My group falls victim to heightened and all-too-often unwarranted and unjustified hysteria. For those of you who haven’t figured it out, I am one of the 851,000+ registered s3x offenders in the US today.
So I ask, I challenge the IWW to reach out to this potentially significant group. Please help us to achieve the stability of work, the stability of a place to live, the peace of mind we so seldom get from far too many citizens in this country. We already have the overwhelming bulk of research on our side, showing conclusively and dramatically that the fears and assumptions of supposedly enlightened, educated citizens have whenever the words “s3x” and “offender” are in the same breath, the same sentence, have little foundation in reality. How about helping us and our families achieve and preserve the stability we strongly need? Will it take a union? I await your answer, as do the rest of this group.
